Premier Tennis League court background

FAQ

Answers to the questions
captains and players ask first.

These answers cover the most common PTL questions. Full competition mechanics now live in the PTL Rulebook so the site does not repeat rule logic in multiple places.

01

Question

Do players need ratings to join?

No. Premier Tennis League does not use ratings, decimals, or algorithms. Teams are built by captains, not assigned by numbers. Performance on the court determines outcomes and nothing else.

02

Question

How are divisions determined in the first season?

All teams participate in an opening evaluation weekend during the inaugural season only. Results are used solely to establish initial division placement. Once divisions are set, evaluation results are discarded and season play alone determines standings and movement.

03

Question

Will there be evaluation weekends in future seasons?

No. The opening evaluation applies only to the inaugural season. In future seasons, all new teams will enter at the bottom division and earn advancement through regular season performance.

04

Question

How long is the season?

The regular season runs 14 weeks with scheduled weekly matches. A full season calendar is published at least two weeks before play begins, and all matches are scheduled in advance.

05

Question

What is the team match format?

See the PTL Official Rules for the full match format, lineup lock procedure, and substitution policy.

06

Question

How does scoring work?

Scoring, set format, and match validity are governed by the PTL Official Rules.

07

Question

How many players can be on a team?

Roster and eligibility rules are governed by the PTL Official Rules.

08

Question

Can teams reschedule matches?

Scheduling, rescheduling exceptions, and PTL override authority are defined in the PTL Official Rules.

09

Question

Which cities are launching first?

Founding Season markets follow PTL's defined activation model. See the Cities page for market rollout and activation context.
